Printing on Windows – Attaching to a network printer in Psychological Sciences

Adding a Printer on Windows

STEPS on Windows 7:

  • Add the LPR Feature for Printing:

(1A) You will need to be logged in as an Administrator:

(1B) From the “Start” button -> Choose Control Panel -> Programs and Features and on the lefthand side, click “turn Windows features on or off

(1C) Under “Print and Document Services” see if the  “LPD Printer Service” is checked. If it is not, click the check box and hit OK.

  • From the “Start” button -> Choose Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> Choose “Add a printer” located in the top column

  • From the wizard that opens choose “Local Printer“. Then choose “create a port“.

  • Choose LPR port from the pulldown menu.
  • On the following page, fill in these fields : server= “psyprint.psy.uconn.edu“, printer= “printer190c” This should build the printer.
  • Then install the printer driver. Manufacturer= HP, Printer= “HP Laserjet Enterprise 600 m601 m602 m603
  • Also turn Duplex= on, and Tray 3= 500 page sheet option.
  • Print a test page to ensure it works.

STEPS on Windows 10:

  1. From the “Start” button -> Choose Control Panel -> Programs and Features
    There is a need to turn Features on or off. An admin account is required.
  2. Under “Print and Document Services” choose “LPD Printer Service” and hit OK.
  3. From the “Start” button -> Choose Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> Choose “Add a printer”
  4. From the wizard that opens choose “Local Printer”. Then choose “create a port”.
  5. Choose LPR port from the pulldown menu.
  6. On the following page, fill in these fields : server=”psyprint.psy.uconn.edu”, printer=”printer190c”
  7. This should build the printer.
  8. Then install the printer driver. Manufacturer=HP, Printer = “HP Laserjet Enterprise 600 m601 m602 m603”
  9. Also turn duplex=on, and tray 3=500 page sheet option.
  10. Print a test page to ensure it works.
